Even if that were possible, You would have to completely remove the CRT to reapply it, preferably after discharging the 25000 volts. I would still use some glass cleaner though, even LCD screen cleaner if you have it, it shouldn't cause any further probs.

Looks like the coating on the crt has been scratched off. Try something like glass cleaner and see what happens, but avoid methylated spirits or alcohol as that can remove more coating. It really annoys me when people don't use their brains when packing stuff, anything that is metal should be packed …

You will also find that most Creative Sound blaster 16's will work too, mostly useful for running the pc speaker sound through in an XT. The 16 bit part is used for the IDE port only usually. I have a few 16 bit IO cards and they work as well.

That's as good as it gets with this motherboard, as higher than 100fsb with the L3 cache on is not possible. Even at 124fsb with l3 cache off the scores are lower. It's been a fun time but I'm moving on to other builds now. My other 2 SS7 boards only go to 100fsb so no point messing with them.

OK, I installed dx7.0a and got 4271. Unless someone knows where in the registry via hides agp settings then I suspect this is as good as it will get. I'll try 600mhz tomorrow sometime.

I think You will find that 160Gb is way too big for that system. I would either use a smaller HDD like 40Gb or use a software overlay so the 160Gb can work. A 3dfx Voodoo 1 and 2 can not be used in any system as the only video card. It is a 3d card only, You need a 2d card for dos/windows and a passthrough cable going between the 2d card and the voodoo card.

You haven't mentioned what version of Windows You are installing, If not already I would only use Win95 on a 486. Just load Himem.sys in your config.sys file and I reckon that should sort it out. It should look something like this. DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS Load it first in the config.sys
