I got a Genius soundcard with this chipset, but it's atrociously loud. Does anyone know the right jumper settings to disable the internal amplifier (or any other method to get it quiet, perhaps)?

Heh, resetting the module ingame is quite a pain, because you'll need to restart the level every time in order for the module to load the (hopefully, lol) correct samples. Creative cards are crappy indeed, but in this case I wouldn't bet on my AWE64 Value being the culprit for this, because it was …

That's weird, I had no trouble playing Raptor on my PIII machine. Played directly from Win98 with USB gamepad though (didn't even know this was possible), no problems.

I'm having this annoying problem with my SC-55ST where it would simply let out one or two instruments out of the MIDI. Happens with games, as well as with MIDI files played from Windows. When it's just turned on it's guaranteed to play the first MIDI like it should, but the ones after that will miss …

I've a V3 3500TV in there right now. Those get pretty hot even by default, I have a modern case fan blowing at it full speed. It still works fine, nothing fried there. I forgot that I found another solution to this: starting a MIDI file just before running the game. Really a pain, but it works... Maybe this will help running Build games under W9x with AWE synth until a real solution is found (if ever) 😀

It's probably the drivers like the others said. This particular flaw is fixed by running in DOS, but Creative cards have even more problems with Build games, see here . I had some varying music in DN3D and SW even with a SC-55ST hooked up to a CT4520 where you just wouldn't hear any music with SFX …

Thanks for the further suggestions... I tried it with a 3500TV since (newest stock drivers) and same thing. I don't know if the monitor supports the proper resolutions, but Eizo monitors are some of the best around overall so I'd be surprised if it's the culprit. As for the updated W9x .exe, can't …

I know about source ports obviously. There are people who prefer to play the games in their original form if they work... If anybody would only use source ports and DOSBox this (sub)-forum wouldn't have much purpose, now wouldn't it?

Keep getting some weird image errors when playing Descent on my V3 3000 (default clocks). I use an Eizo L365 monitor, messing with some settings there didn't help. I don't think this issue is monitor related though, as Descent is so far the first DOS game giving me this. Running in W98 or DOS …
