Re: Old computers for daily tasks?

I've been spoiled by 4.3GHz worth of i7 power. Even activities as mundane as browsing the web feel quite sluggish on my 1.83GHz C2D laptop in comparison. The shit GMA 950 IGP may be to blame though; even browsers claim to be GPU accelerated these days. Internet on a P3 or P4? Nope. Even activities …

Re: Anecdotal accounts of Windows 7 on dual Tualatin rigs for everyday computing

Adobe just prompted me to download Flash 14, and--minor miracle here--it actually seems to be a bit faster than Flash 13. This reminds me of Flash 11, which outperformed Flash 10.2. I just did a quick "benchmark" on three older systems. All running Win7 and Firefox 29. Sorry, I don't have any Flash …

Re: My 3DMark01 Mega Thread

Intel E7300 dual core (poor overclocker sample.. have to feed it tons of voltage, oh well), @ 4.0 ghz BFG water cooled 8800 GTX (with small Overclock, +13% core, +12% memory) Dual channel DDR2-1066 @ 1066 Mhz Vista Ultimate x64 Damn, that's a great score for a C2D and 8800 on Vista--the worst …

Re: Anecdotal accounts of Windows 7 on dual Tualatin rigs for everyday computing

Tests using the AMD HD4350 in, both, Windows XP Pro and Windows 7 Pro indicate no change in processor utilisation when playing Youtube videos (HTML5 and Flash). Fullscreen and non-fullscreen modes were tested in, both, Firefox 19 and Chrome 34. Some videos had "HD" on them, while others did not. I …

Re: My 3DMark01 Mega Thread

Some very strange results from Win7 on a Tualatin. I tested a PCI Radeon 9250 and an AGP 9800 Pro. -The PCI 9250 scores higher in Win7 than it does with XP. That's weird, as Win7 was comparatively slower than WinXP in my case. Results tabulated below for the signature rig under WinXP, Vista & Win7. …

Some very strange results from Win7 on a Tualatin. I tested a PCI Radeon 9250 and an AGP 9800 Pro. -The PCI 9250 scores higher in Win7 than it does with XP. -The AGP 9800 Pro scores much lower under Win7. Performance is just about cut in half -Under Win7, the 9800 only scores ~150 more points than …

Re: My 3DMark01 Mega Thread

I've been tinkering with a Pentium M setup quite a bit lately and have been extremely impressed with it. The stability, compatibility, efficiency, performance--it's all there. The performance is just amazing--at 2.66GHz it comes very close to the single-threaded performance of my Opteron 185 @ 3. …

Re: My 3DMark01 Mega Thread

CPU scaling with the AGP and PCIe GeForce 6800GT. The card seems to max out at around 26K with the faster CPUs I tested. The A64 @ 2.8GHz and Dothan at 2.66GHz can both hit around 38K with a GTX-260, so the faster processors definitely have some wiggle room here. I used GeForce Driver 307.83 on all …

Re: Anecdotal accounts of Windows 7 on dual Tualatin rigs for everyday computing

Alternately, is there another brand, native-AGP, graphics card I can try out which is known to have built-in Flash-acceleration? Unfortunately, native-AGP cards do not have the hardware H.264 decoders necessary for full Flash acceleration. NVIDIA's fastest native-AGP card was the 6800 Ultra; ATI's …
