Might be a bad idea,but you could try a PCI version of a FX5200. Not really that bright (it's slightly better than GF4 MX?) but for a 486 it might be worth trying it.

You can run 2GB safely on Windows 98 as far as I know. At least I remember my Acer Travelmate 804 (which was a 1.7GHz Celeron M,Radeon 9000 as well) ran 98 SE without problems,and that was with 2 1GB Kingston RAM sticks.
