What are the differences, in terms of sound playback, compared to the S1? Does it use a different soundfont for example? Or is it just the PCB & ICs that change? I'm trying to see if there's any meaning for an S1 owner to get the S2.

Ah I see, so it's not just a matter of running a utility and flashing the BIOS. A programmer and a flash chip are needed. Unfortunately I don't have a programmer and since this "L" character is not uncommon for these cards I might just pretend that I value its individuality and leave it alone :D …

Also, have you tried to see if it works with one of the EARLIER BIOS versions? It could be a PCIset issue that presented itself in a later BIOS and went undetected as Voodoo cards were not a thing back then.. Now that's something I haven't tried. Also if you're asking whether a pass-through cable on a V3 is possible (and not required), then again the answer is no. But they definitely go higher than 1024x768.
