Impressed! I really posted this game so that more people discover it, and it ends up that I'm the one discovering things about it :) I have it under the title "Hover Craft" (and HOVER.EXE), comparing the dates appearing in Mobygames screenshots "Islands of Danger" probably is the later title. Good …

[Identify] old DOS date utility

in Milliways
Hello everyone, I do realize this is a long shot given the lack of information, still it’s my only remaining chance of finding a very old MSDOS utility. It’s of no real practical use, only has sentimental value. Back in the early 90’s every PC in my neighborhood had it and I thought it was something …

Re: Guess the game!!

Ah, I knew I couldn't get the spelling correctly :) No seriously, I just got lucky having encountered it on this compilation. Apparently it really was a free game. Well, I must admit I resisted the temptation of posting a completely unknown Greek game :D , so this is something I really enjoyed …

Re: Guess the game!!

I've seen this one before, it's Telecommando or something similar spelled correctly in German(?) :) Of course I couldn't understand a thing and immediately abandoned it. I don't know if it was meant to be free or not, but it was included in one of those early freeware/shareware/public domain cd …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

...and now http://www.pixelships.com is working again despite not hearing back from tech support yet. *shakes head* Very strange how the www version of my domain cut out for a period of time and came back all on its own while the non-www address worked fine. :P Most probably some temporary DNS …

Re: network shareing method with windows 95 on windows 8?

in Milliways
btw, something I believe I didn't stress out enough on my first post on this: For me, unless you have a better/faster/requiring less effort solution that I'd honestly like to hear, FTP is the only way to go for frequent transfers of files to a DOS-only machine. Well, sure, there's the Microsoft …

Re: network shareing method with windows 95 on windows 8?

I like this idea too, but the major downside is that you can't stream data, i.e. anything you want to work with has to be copied to the local hard drive. Well, you're totally right, but I was most probably thinking of much older retro-pc's such as DOS and Win3-95-98 machines (where the networking …

Re: network shareing method with windows 95 on windows 8?

Since you're talking about network sharing between retro and modern systems, my experience can be summarized in the following: I'm tired of trying to make older OS's see folders of the modern system, making specific accounts, sharing folders, having issues with access from one side or the other and …

Re: p150 - good choice?

Seriously, this is a retro pc. Every retro pc is good for what it is. Suitable for you? It depends on your needs. Although you'll be able to play the games mentioned, it's not the best for these and similar ones. Maybe you should try something more powerful (MMX?) if this kind of games (+even more …

Re: Barrel battery to coin-style battery, can it be done?

I would have preferred the compact 3V coin cell setup, even added the holder. but it won't work... Also looked around for these 3,6 V coin cells LIR2032, but these are either a little expensive or suspiciously cheap... Those are Li-ion rechargeables, although in practice it won't make any …

Re: Barrel battery to coin-style battery, can it be done?

Just connect a coin battery to J1, set the jumper to use that one and you should be fine. There is this voltage difference mentioned (3,6 - 3 volts) but I've never encountered a single board not holding its data with a 3V coin battery. I've even used 2 AA's taped together in such cases :) No need to …
