I've been playing with this board - Gigabyte GA486AM/S Ver 2.21 and can't find correct jumpers for 60/66MHz FSB or my board/CPU won't take it. For the moment I have AMD 5x86 but will try later with the Cyrix one. Can someone post undocumented FSB settings? Thanks

I have set the JP19 to 1:1/2 so PCI speed shouldn't matter.

50MHz is 3-4 5-6. With 1-2 3-4 it won't boot at all.

I'm just testing this board... but there is no revision # anywhere. My board also has 1-2 and 5-6 as 33MHz. Now it runs my ADZ at 3x60 and only shows 1st screen at 3x66. This is all at 4V. I have two more ADW but only one boots at 3x60 but not always. The other one doesn't boot at all. They all work …

I have one 286 board with SIMMs and it also takes 16MB (4x4MB). Although it is slower with this amount of memory - memory transfer rate drops a few MB/s.

I have a 286 that supports 16MB of memory. Even some 386DX had 16 simm slots.

I got 286-16 in 1992 with 1MB ram. My friends father had 486dx-33 with 16MB ram. I didn't even know what to do with that amount :D For Win 3.1X 8MB was usually enough. Standard was 4MB with 386DX-33/40. Even 486 usually didn't have more then 8MB. Later with Windows 95 release the normal became 16MB …

The board with this particular cpu combination would allow the change of multi from 2x to 3x (jumper was actually for enabling the WB cache on WB cache supported cpus - weird right?). What would actually be faster? Ti486SXL2-50 or Ti486SXL-40 First one is running on 25MHz bus, while the other at 40MHz. I'd assume when running small code to fit its 8kb cache 50MHz would be faster, but otherwise "should" be slower.

Just try to install it. It might work or not. There are no drivers needed for motherboard chipset. For basic operation you don't need any additional drivers at all. Just make sure the disk has FAT16 partitions less then 2GB in size - preferably around 500MB for c:. You also want to have around 32MB …

I guess I'll have to find out the hard way... it's in the mail. Hopefully it will get here in a week or two. I'll try to swap the crystal for 50Mhz one and put Harris cpu in it. Also fpu will be changed for IIT one till I get a proper Cyrix Fasmath 287XL+. If this works, I'm done with my 286 project …

I'm sure this machine has standard BIOS with 45 predefined HDD's + one for user. So you can use any standard I/O controller card. RLL/MFM/IDE... it doesn't matter to the BIOS.

Hello, I need help identifying this 286 motherboard. The year 1992 on AMI BIOS chip caught my eye. It isn't the most compact last gen 286 board but it seems decent. I like that socketed oscillator and CPU.

Software only uses what hardware can produce. As AGP4X was fast enough for the top VGA cards there were no benefits of AGP8X support.
