There are many revisions of M919 board. This one is V3.4B/F and it's the last one. It never had soldered cache chips just the COAST module. So you either have cache via COST module or you don't have it at all. Performance penalty with 16KB L1 486 chips is not that big, but it is still noticeable. …

Are you sure there is difference between 1 and 2MB with 3Dbench 1.0c on a P-233? I actually never tested beyond 486 class computers, but in DOS there were no gains with 2MB. But it makes up to 80% increase in Windows performance.

I've tested my Mach64 4MB VLB and it does 1600x1200/16-bit at 54Hz on a CRT monitor. Diamond S3 968 4MB VLB does the same at max 67Hz - but the CRT might be the limit here as I'm using EIZO FlexScan T563 17" at the moment.

Just tested my ATI Mach64 4MB VLB at 1600x1200/16-bit and 60Hz on Windows98SE with PcChips M919 V3.4B/F VIP motherboard with 256KB cache. It works fine with 4x16MB FPM, 2x32MB FPM, 2x32 + 2x16MB. I have other 4MB VLB cards, but see no point in testing. Might try with a true VLB motherboard later... …

There are no gains going from good VLB to good PCI graphics card on a 486/5x86/Overdrive. Even from bad VLB to good PCI isn't much difference - unless you have a Weitek Power 9000 VLB/PCI card 😉
