The curious case of ESS Solo-1 and gameport

I recently got an ESS Solo-1 PCI card for a Windows 95/DOS rig. While it works mighty fine in both Windows and DOS, I absolutely can't figure out how to enable the gameport. While installing the Windows drivers, only the device and DOS emulation drivers are installed, and there doesn't seem to be …

Re: Trident Cyber 9525DVD and Direct3D

Yeah, that's pretty much it. :) Some games run slower, some faster, but overall the sprite/texture issue is persistent across all of them. Croc and Turok runs fairly well, Shogo is a bit too choppy for a FPS, while Sonic R slows down to a crawl, 5 FPS at best. Oh well, as I said, there's always the …

Re: Trident Cyber 9525DVD and Direct3D

Tried Turok, Croc 1, Sonic R and Shogo: MAD, sadly all of them have that sprite drawing issues. Oh well, all is not lost, at least the software rendering works great, as the machine is equipped with a PIII. ;) I remember having a Trident card in my old (1997, as I recall correctly) computer, and …

Trident Cyber 9525DVD and Direct3D

Anybody have any experience with the Trident Cyber 9525DVD (2.5MB) card? I have a Toshiba Satellite pro 4220 with the said card, and I can't get D3D games to run correctly. No matter what I do, all of the sprites in the D3D-accelerated games (like text, GUIs, 2D background animations etc.) are …

Re: Weird Voodoo colouring issue

in Windows
@Jorpho: yes, I installed the official patch, it only made possible to play on GeForce 3, but the issue with 3Dfx driver is still there. @leileilol: no, the autoexec doesn't have any new lines, and nothing was added after installing the drivers. Though yes, I found the variables description table …

Weird Voodoo colouring issue

in Windows
So once again I have a (at least a minor this time) problem with my Voodoo card. At first I was paranoid, as I though I bought another busted card - there are weird colour issues on the textures - they are inproperly coloured and sometimes flashing all sorts of funky colours (textures only, any …

Re: PCI/AGP card combo?

4 cards? Wow, that's nice! 😀 Well, the noticeable blur at 1280x1024 really does strain my eyes after a while, but on 640x480/800x600 there are barely any differences. And the game I've tested run flawlessly (eye straining-wise), even on high resolutions in D3D/passthrough.

Re: PCI/AGP card combo?

Ok guys, the issue is resolved. It seems that the motherboard was the problem, as it completely died the next day (from reasons unknown). I got an ASUS Cubx, based on Intel 440BX with one ISA slot as the replacement, put in the exact same configuration (it's a socket 370 as well, so no problems …

Re: PCI/AGP card combo?

in Windows
After a bit of snooping I found out that "Voodoo1 cards produce artifacts on the screen and do not play most DOS Glide games correctly when the FSB is higher than 100 MHz, even if the PCI bus runs at default clock speeds." The FSB on my board is set to default (133 MHz, the minimum value). Could …

Re: PCI/AGP card combo?

So, the Voodoo 2 came in today, got pretty excited, mounted it, plugged the cables. And... disappointment. I mean sure, the card was detected, the screen quality is quite nice (a bit of a blur is visible @1280x1024, but nothing eye-grinding or such), but after running a game it looks like this: …

Re: PCI/AGP card combo?

Again, please tell us what system you're using right now, besides a GeForce 2. Right, sorry! Forgot to post it earlier, haha. It's a Pentium III (Coppermine/1000MHz) machine, with 256 Megs of RAM, two HDDs (system and specifically for games, W98SE/DOS7 standard combo) and Yamaha OPL3-SAx soundcard. …

Don't believe everything you read. Another overhyped problem (along with alot of others here on Vogons and retro community in general) which has no practical difference as long as you don't use a very shitty VGA cable. Haha, right, that's why I'm asking the experts here. :) It worried me a little …
