The X7DAE+ is off to be sold. A Tyan Tempest S5392 is replacing it, and I've put the two X5365 to use in that mainboard. Very nice board, Bancho! Abit was quite the maverick manufacturer, good job on the caps. My new Panasonic caps are on their way. Here I spent half an hour assorting EDO and FP-simms, a job that needed doing for a long time.

If it's an i815 your 866 should work. Have you tried: - resetting cmos - another stick of PC-133 SDRam - with an AGP or PCI VGA - check individual components on another M/B. I am not sure the PSU is really the culprit here. Have you tried the PSU on another mainboard?

The PLL is an ICS9159C-02 if I can read correctly from a picture I took a few months back. I'll take it out of storage and run a few tests on it this week. One interesting thing to check is the EDO/FP issue on the 8 slots.

A quick look on the net shows a thread on reddit with a running q6600. Still, when boards have different revisions, you still may be out of luck. Check the bios version and the voltage regulator, that might give some indications.

It will be easier finding a set of matching 72pin sticks instead of finding an exact copy of the one you have now. Then again, it's a 486, so one stick of 16 MB FP ram will do the trick as well. Which chipset does your mainboard use? If it supports EDO ram, you might even find that kind of ram …

A good quality ide-to-sata adapter with a 128 GB SSD is IMHO the best but probably overkill. On my P4 rdram system I have a ide to sata adapter and a 300 GB Velociraptor, and it delivers the same fluent user experience as an ssd as far as Win98 is concerned.

1996 Workstation equals Pentium Pro if you go for top performance, or a dual socket 7 system. The 1997 equivalent would be a dual i440LX based motherboard (66 MHz). Have Ppro's mainboards become so difficult to find? I would suspect it easier to find a dual Ppro than a dual s7.
