I usually make sure to cover up the caps with aluminum foil just to make sure they dont bulge out, along with any other "delicate" components

Attempted to revive a dead M577 today. Tried different cpu's, different PSU's both AT and ATX, swapped ram. . .nothing. Have a backup but the socket retention is broken off 😒 wonder if superglue and thermal paste mixed would hold a HSF onto a k6-3 without melting 🤣.

Yep! I have done it with a Geforce 8800GT and a Geforce 2 that was stored in a place that had extreme temp fluctuations that cracked the solder joints in the memory. So it worked but had some weird artifacts.

You may be able to revive it. Could be that the solder joints are bad and a reflow could raise it from the dead, not sure tho TBH. Already dead so it would at least be worth a shot 😀

I have the same drive but a 10x4x32 instead 😀 it's home is in a Socket 7 Acer machine I need to get around to getting running at some point.

300 watt FSP powersupply got decommissioned today. Not only did three caps pop but a resistor burned up and there is no way to tell what it was originally 🙁

If you do not mind being limited to Intel cpu's you can usually find some nice Intel HX motherboards from OEM machines.

After reading a thread on here about MSI motherboards blowing up with highend P4 chips I decided to scrap and start over on my mega P4 build. Oh well, needed to wait to do anything until my thermal paste arrives anyways 😀

I scrapped a similar slot 1 deskpro a couple years back. It had onboard ESS Audiodrive and an identical ISA version on the riser. I always wondered why, makes sense now!
