I would advise you check the capacitors on the Soltek motherboard when you check that system out. If they are bulged or leaking pass it up. Otherwise it appears to be a Via Apollo based chipset motherboard. You should be able to use the generic Via chipset drivers to get your agp, memory controller, …

Well the k6 machine is a def must keep due to the nostalgia factor, the fx6300 is your main pc and should be kept as well. The only real contender I could see would be the p4 setup vs the Opteron and I think the Opteron is the better system of the two and you are using it more anyways :) What? The …

My bios by default disables the intel automatic shutdown temp, which is a very bad design flaw. Heck there is an option to disable throttling as well. Yes, it was very slow. That is why I noticed the temps finally, even 190 windows updates should not take 24 hours to install

I ran a Prescott at 130C for a day straight without realizing it this week. Still works! But it does smell rather funny. . .remember to always make sure your cpu cooler is attached properly and that the thermal warnings in the bios are enabled!

My understanding is that the Aureal Vortex 2 has poor support for DOS so I figured that the SB16 could cover DOS games while the Diamond would be used in 9x games.Fun fact! The only parts I bought for this build were the motherboard, case, and the ISA 3com card. Everything else was free

Finished up installing Windows 7 on my el-cheapo (AKA, free rejected trash) 478 p4. 3.0ghz Prescott, 4gb DDR 400, Geforce 6200 pci, 20gb SATA drive from an old xbox 360, Seagate 160gb ide drive and a 400gb ide Hitachi Deskstar with 10 reallocated sectors and over 40k power on hours.

Even a tiny 486 style fan will work great for cooling a Pentium chip.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?It … N82E16813131504 this is the motherboard I use in my media center pc. The bios only sees 3x of my 4gb of ram but Windows 7 sees all 4gb and utilizes the usual amount for 32bit Windows 7.
