Depending on what OS I'm using I usually end up throwing in a bunch of cards to make up for it. Throw a couple 40gb 7200rpm drives in a Raid 0 array w/ a promise card, USB 2.0, either a 10m/b Isa card or a 100m/b pci Lan, and anything else that floats your boat.

The VP6 uses Jackson caps, which are a known bad cap. In the case of my VP6 it is not the tops that blew out, but the bottoms. You cant even tell unless you desolder them.

This is a rather 12v heavy (aka, modern) rig. A solid 400-500watt psu would suit you just fine, my advise would be to pick up a new Antec, Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic, or other reputable new, modern unit. With enough molex and sata connectors of course.

I swapped my main PC into an old 2002 era beige Antec midtower. GPU fan needs a few hundred extra RM's to keep temps down, but other than that it works great!

As long as you don't have a stack of hard drives running without any airflow I can't really see there being an issue. The tdp of a k6 is what, 25 or 35watts? I picked up a Quad core AMD Opteron Tyan server board with an nvidia chipset as well as 8gb of ddr2 800. Freeeee! No real use for it right now tbh, but meh.

Fun fact, the Via PT880 chipset was actually used with some early lga775 motherboards as well. It should be fairly stable and trouble free.

Try the cooler you have, if the CPU is constantly throttling buy a better cooler. 2.0ghz is either a Northwood or Willamette core. Neither is Prescott so it's not like the tdp is that massive. Remember, it's not like I'm P3 or earlier chips that lack overheating protection.
