I plugged an ATX powersupply backwards into a Gigabyte Slot 1 board. That went well! Couldnt get it to run stable after that, any OS I would throw onto it would corrupt within a week. Did it just not have the key pins in it? That seems hard to do. The PSU was one of those free, feather light jobs. …

If you dont have anthing else to do with the $10 then it would be worth it 😀 I would take the Northwood over the Prescott due to thermals alone. Also easier on the motherboard due to decreased thermal footprint.

Last I checked the 3.2 Northwood is a good sweet spot, cheap, does not get super hot and speedy. That would be my suggestion!

The SIS 530 based motherboards look like good options. Tend to be cheaper, be standard ATX vs AT, have graphics and audio integrated that you dont have to use, and support K6 processors even. Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra. Sis 645 chipset, Universal agp pro slot, 3gb of DDR266 or 2gb of DDR333 duak channel, and onboard Raid. Terrible caps. Max cpu is the 3.06/512/533 P4. HT wont work however, even with a powerleap adapter.

Yep! Looks like the ram on the left is a pair of 72pin Simms and the rest look to all be SDRAM. So really all you need is a good motherboard.

Looks nice! That should be a fun system to play some games on. Pretty classy looking case, looks like an Inwin design. My only suggestion would be a low rpm 120mm exhaust fan to help that passive CPU breath a little. Probs not neccesary tho tbh.

Abit was pretty notorious for using bad caps. Hit up badcaps.net if you dont take my word for it.
