We should make a list of 'roughly comparable to' cycles and then make an algorithm out of that data to extrapolate what the equivilant cycle speed would be for any given processor speed. Hm...now all we need is a program that will measure from inside DOSBox what the clock speed is (being emulated …

There is none. The closest you can get is NTFS-DOS Pro, and even that is severely limited.

Just because it doesn't run in DOSBox doesn't mean it isn't a DOS game! DOSBox only supports REAL MODE 386 and 486 games (mostly games before 1993). While it is entirely possible it is a Windows game, I highly doubt it.

#1. Compatibility modes are for WINDOWS PROGRAMS ONLY. #2. Make sure you are using the VDMSound Launchpad. #3. VDMSound runs at I/O 220h, IRQ 7, DMA 1, HDMA 5. #4. I've run Ripper fine as have many other people, so chances are you are doing something wrong.

There's more than just the samples, dude. The SC-55, IIRC, used GS, not GM.

(also; how on earth does that roland emulator work!! If I could make it work i'm sure it would make games like day of the tentacle, monkey island & discworlds' music sound better 😀) VDMSound does not emulate, it just remaps the channels to GM.

If the Windows Creative Diagnostic utility is reporting no sound card found it isn't VDMSound. I don't think the old DOS Creative utility would find VDMSound anyway, but just in case, what files do you have with the string "Ke386" in them?
