I compiled the latest CVS version yesterday with debug enabled and a proper version of ems.cpp. (It won't compile with the CVS version of ems.cpp as it stands now.) Here are the binaries. Enjoy.

A suggestion: Reinstall Windows 98SE, but don't use any kind of 'express' installation mode, or it won't ask you where you want it to go. Tell it to go in \WINDOWS. Then you're set.

Be sure to check it's using the correct Device ID (although since the buttons are working that shouldn't be a problem). I'm not sure what to tell you, but I'm sure Vlad has an idea. Vlad?

Well, it's like it's scroll-wrapping the screen, but it does it in a manner that I would call 'tearing' since it isn't the entire screen.

It runs, and I get sound, for about half-a-second. Then I get this screen and it's game over. Notice how the GliDOS logo is there. (Whyeee?) Better than it used to be, anyway. 😉 BTW, this is running with the latest 40.72 drivers from nVidia.

The latest SDL library has a severe video tearing problem. I'm not sure what's causing it, but it's really, really bad. Every few cycles the SDL window "tears". It doesn't matter if it's ScummVM or DOSBox (starting with .56 for DOSBox, to give a rough estimate of when it started occurring, not sure …

Regarding the music -- Apple took out analogue synth in systems greater than 6. The game could be trying to use that. Solution? Executor. (Read the instructions on Cliff Johnson's page regarding that.)

Just some instructions to change said location (%TEMP% and %TMP%): Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Environment Variables... As a note, you don't need to be the Administrator to do this if you have access to the entire filesystem, since each user has his/her own set of environment …

Just for everyone's information, I've got both the CD-ROM *and* DVD-ROM versions of the game, and neither will work because of said processor speed issue. Also, there was a re-release of Myst for Win32 that works fine, but the original Win16 version WILL crap out on you if you're running anything …

If he got Win98SE and booted into pure DOS mode the game would work without a hitch on a P133. (Actually, it would probably run fine in a DOS shell too. I had a P2-266 that ran them all fine. Hell, even my K7-700 ran them fine.)

Use the latest daily build of ScummVM instead. It works. And it looks sexy. Only problem are some image jitter issues which I've alerted them to.
