I just gutted a dumpster PC for a black LCD Power LC6550H. Works fine, no bulging caps and even provides 0.5A at -5V. Not so the other PSU I found which is a Xilence 350W XP350. Only 0.3A at -5V.

CTCM works every time as long as EMU386 is loaded first.

Well, here's the solution :-) I installed EMU386 and ran the installer for both PnP Creative Configuration Manager (CTCM) and Audio Software. This got sound working - tested in Leisure Suit Larry 3. Now I was curious... could I make it work without CTCM? So I restarted with F8 and chose not to run …

Yes, I have SET CTCM in autoexec. My idea of setting the blaster environment manually didn't do anything. MSD.EXE does tell me a lot but what should I enter in CTCU? EVerything including COM ports? I'm not very good at this anymore 😁

It's CT4180 - no IDE interface, just a plain Vibra 16c 😀 I haven't done anything with CTCU because it doesn't even see the card and I don't know what to enter for VGA/IDE controller... I have one more idea for tomorrow so stay tuned.

Looks like the chips are not missing on that 486. Unfortunately it doesn't boot. I get the startup screen but no RAM count and can't access the BIOS either. It resets itself after a while and then just keeps showing the screen with VGA info.

I still don't get it why people bother with gold recovery? I was under the impression that it didn't pay out unless you operated with tons of equipment.
