Looks like the problem fixed itself... I have no idea what happened but the board appears to be functional now.

love the case, all of my school's 386's were in a case identical to that one. "back in the day" as for what CPU is in it, the chip in the exact middle of your first picture looks like the CPU, but I cant read anything on it. I guess, it used to have a different motherboard at 1992, with 386-16, 8 with turbo off. It was probably changed for a 386DX-40 board once they became cheap - the board surely does not look like it was made in 1992. P.S. Nice find, very clean, handsome case. Have fun! 8-16 could also be a 286.. …

Went to the scrapyard yesterday and came back with another working computer. It's a 386DX-40 filled up with 8MB of RAM, OAK 512K video, no sound card, 5.25" and 3.5" floppy drives and a 30MB NEC hard drive. It boots straight to DOS 6.22. I checked most, if not all traces that looked suspicious and they all gave a beep on the voltmeter. So unless it's one of the traces that I couldn't get to, I don't know what it could be.

I have two motherboards which had leaky batteries. In both cases I desoldered the battery and cleaned the residue with white vinegar and isopropyl alcohol. Now my 486 board won't even let me enter BIOS. I can see it do a RAM count, report floppy drive error then it switches to a blank screen …

Congratulations 😁 Didn't think a Sandisk card would be problematic. I was gonna order two of those Sandisk Ultra III 4GB cards just because they're cheaper than the Extreme series.

I'm actually having a similar problem with a 512MB Viking CF card. It doesn't boot in any of my 486 systems, my Pentium 120 setup displays a letter 'j' when it should start booting DOS. The only board that knows how to boot from the card is a socket 7 ASUS SP-97XV and I'm still not sure the board is …

I even tried swapping BIOS chips with BIOS from an ASUS SP-97XV. Both boards have SiS chipsets and are Socket 7 so I thought it might work. After the transplant, the MSI board wouldn't boot and just gave me a bunch of beeps. Anyway, I tested the board with PCI, ISA and AGP cards with the same …

I've tried disabling onboard IDE and Floppy controllers as well as USB. Didn't help. No onboard sound or network... I'm out of ideas.

I dislike the Socket 7 platform because it's missing a turbo button and you have to mess with BIOS settings to slow it down. I tried booting from a CF card using a CF-IDE adapter but the same thing happens. The card is correctly detected in BIOS. Also tried booting from a floppy with no success.
