Re: roland mt-32 old games on dosbox

in MT-32 General
The Roland UM-One (or UM-1) MkII the the cable I would recommend. Its well made, and well supported in terms of drivers for Windows, OS-X, and Linux. The thing just works and its built to last. It does cost a bit, but you get your moneys worth. It even supports iPads and iPhones.

On a side note, I can confirm that the Roland UM-1 Mk II works as is with a generic HID driver in Windows 8, 8.1, and 10. You do not need to use the official Roland driver if you are only using the interface to play games in something like DOSBox, or SCUMMVM. Using it with a DAW or using midi …

Re: Opinions on Yamaha TG100 and Kawai GMega

Cloud, I mainly listened to a folder of MIDI's to test out howmy modules sound. I keep songs that were made for specific modules in separate, module named folders, and GM MIDI's in the primary folder. I just cue up the first song out if each folder on each module when I get it and see if it sounds …

Re: Opinions on Yamaha TG100 and Kawai GMega

Interesting. I always assumed the "GS" update the EX firmware supplies was just a name change for the TG300B mode, as Yamaha finally had legal permission to use the GS name. MY 2000EX was from the later factory made batch, meaning I have never heard the non-EX version. If anyone wants to test this, …

Re: 3dfx voodoo 3

I agree, and never implied that it can't be done manually. But if you're unaware of the problems in dealing with vintage hardware, software, and drivers, then jumping straight into Windows 9X registry and mucking about will more than likely end in a total disaster. Driver Cleaner was/is known to be …

Re: Opinions on Yamaha TG100 and Kawai GMega

A number of years back, I got an MU2000 module. It was original and not upgraded with the EX firmware. Its TG300B mode sounded very different compared to my actual TG300. It sounded much better to be honest. Superior samples and TOS link out, made it sound fantastic. Then I did the EX firmware …

Re: 3dfx voodoo 3

There is a program called "Driver Cleaner" that should do the trick. It was pretty much required software back in the day, as most video card drivers didn't clean up their own mess when updating, and Win 9X has a fairly craptastic registry. In fact, it wasn't until the early 2000's that Nvidia and …

Re: Opinions on Yamaha TG100 and Kawai GMega

I really enjoy the TG modules. Not long after I got a TG-100, I got a good deal on a TG-300 and started using it instead. The 300 has the 100's sounds so for straight up game playback, they sound the same. It however seems to have a noticeable increase in sound quality. I'm unaware of the technical …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

If its not to late, I would like to reserve two universal kits (I'll do my own soldering). I know I would like to buy a couple other items from the shop, so let me know when to make payment for combined shipping.

Re: BFG Technologies FX5900 Ultra Artifacting

There is nothing wrong with 91% or better IPA for cleaning. However almost all commercially sold IPA is made from crude oil based distillate and will leave a thin layer of impurities that can effect/destroy grease type TIM's. This is rare and not really a concern with modern and easily replaced gear …

Re: BFG Technologies FX5900 Ultra Artifacting

Yes, AS silver or copper TIM's can be conductive. However its been shown that only happens in rare cases where high pressure loads are used between the surfaces. I can't remember exact lbs mentioned back in the early 2000's, but it was more than 50lbs of pressure between conductive surfaces before …

Re: Roland CM-500 = MT-32 + SC55?

in MT-32 General
Well if fan patches added MIDI, that would explain why I'm confused on X68k games that use the 32P. It seems to me that there are more 32P featured games than what others have seen. I guess that some must be post release patched, and that has confused me. All I know is I like me some 32P instruments …

Wow, SuperDeadite! You really helped me learn the basics of my MU-2000. I got it a few years ago and watching you use it in your (with lots of rewinding and pausing) vids was the only way I could figure it out. This past year I've watched your newer vids to help me better understand my UW-500. …
