Bought a joystick Y splitter never been opened for installing a standard joystick, gamepad, or what have you for my Packard Bell Pack-Mate 28 Plus for 2-player games, such as NHL Hockey 95.

Backed up my Creative Labs CR-563-B firmware in case I need to make a new one. In case anyone needs the firmware, here you go. The firmware uses a Fairchild NM27C256N-120 (32Kx8 120ns) and an Amtel AT28C256-120 (120ns) can be used on there in case the original firmware on your CD-ROM drive has …

In WIN95 my Creative CR-563-B just hangs with the led on when when I try to read from any disc. The driver installs without problems. I installed the DOS drivers from WIN95 and I just rebooted. Upon reboot the CD-ROM was recognized in DOS and I could access the drive. To my knowledge the only way …

Happy to report (few days later) the CD-ROM drive is 100% fully functional. I'm planning on taking pictures of the "new" motor and the old corroded motor, and do a short video about the drive over the weekend.

Could be cracked or cold solder joints, corrosion from the NiCd battery, bad or failing PSU, and the list goes on and on. Remove everything, except for the VGA card, CPU, PC Speaker, and RAM to see how it performs. Also, I'd suggest the diagnostics card as well to check for voltage loss.

Who uses that stuff for thermal compound and leave it on there for years? I change my thermal compound at least every 2-3 years (I have a big tube of Arctic 5 Silver Compound that does wonders). Glad you got that 486 to work, man.
