Re: grid pattern in FF7

in Windows
a little update: I managed to get a 12Mb Voodoo2 (Guillemot Maxi Gamer) , and as expected, all of the problems disappeared , the sound worked properly, the grid pattern was gone, and the FMVs played smoothly.. this also fixed another game, Nuclear Strike, which would not work even on a Voodoo3 or …

Re: Afraid to run old Windows Games on Window 7?

in Windows
first, its highly unlikely any game will actually break Windows 7 , as mentioned previously , the NT based systems are solid. in regards to games actually working, that depends not just on Windows 7 (and Im assuming you mean 64bit) , but also on other things such as drivers. its not even necessarily …

Re: Retro K6-III

I like it, makes a good Win98 machine, a K6 450 should be pretty competitive with just about any pre-Quake 3 era game. though I agree that Geforce is overkill for this kind of system, if it was me, I would skip the dual Voodoo IIs and just go for a single Voodoo 3000.

Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

the aluminum case really gives the computer a classy look to it, compared to the beige or coloured plastic cases that existed at the time, it also keeps this build cool, the CPUs stay at around 34C , while the motherboard never goes over 25C, even after gaming for a while. one weird thing this …

Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

my dual 800Mhz PIII build is finished, finally managed to find silver DVD and floppy drives to go along with it, sadly the webcam makes the case look duller. http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae46/darkman_019/Picture13_zps6ed354d7.jpg http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae46/darkman_019/Picture14_ …

Re: grid pattern in FF7

in Windows
its an Abit BX6 1.0 , so its a 440BX board an I think it was quite reputable back in the day, it lacks a few of the features that the 2.0 has, but overall its a very solid board. I might actually try setting the AGP Aperture size higher or lower, I think I have it set at 64Mb , so maybe its too high …

Re: grid pattern in FF7

in Windows
from what Ive experienced so far, the Live can be pretty flaky in Win2K in general , in fact, if I decide to turn this into a Win2k only machine, I might just put in the spare Audigy2ZS I have lying around , maybe not era correct , but I reckon I would gain in terms of stability and audio quality. …

Re: grid pattern in FF7

in Windows
yes they play fine, obviously using the normal Windows Media player 9 , and like I said they play flawlessly in software mode. it is indeed an AGP card, Ive not been able to find any drivers beyond the latest bios, the install CD doesn't have much (an IDE drive, and thats about it) , and I can't …

Re: grid pattern in FF7

in Windows
that did the trick , thank you. Although I think that eventually I will eventually try to separate the 2 machines in terms of OS, with the newer one running mainly or only Win2k ( just for the sake of less burden, almost all games I want to run on it can run great on Win2k) the PII machine will be …

Re: grid pattern in FF7

in Windows
sadly it hasn't affected anything, though Ive been thinking. since the AWE64 option is basically a 4MB soundfont from what I can tell, would it work on any soundcard capable of loading custom soundfonts? if it does, it might be worth it to load the soundfont directly onto the SBLive in the other …

Re: grid pattern in FF7

in Windows
well I did copy the movies to the hard drive (as well as set the "movies" in the registry) and it no difference. I will install the latest version of media player, sadly I didn't see it beforehand, if I remember correctly, the latest version available for WIn98SE is version 9 , so I will go for that …

Re: grid pattern in FF7

in Windows
software mode looks fine actually, functions correctly though obviously the low res makes the game makes the game look even blockier than it is. I have to wonder if it really is an incompatibility with this particular model of the Rage Pro, it is most certainly a Rage Pro though.

Re: grid pattern in FF7

in Windows
the reason I want to run it on this PC is for the AWE64G music the game supports, I personally prefer it to what it sounded like on PS1, and alot better than the default PC sounds most people were using. the other PC being focused more on Win9x/2k , has an SBLive on it. like I said, eventually I …

Re: grid pattern in FF7

in Windows
just out of interest I tried various versions of DirectX to see if it makes any difference, I tried DX5 (the one on the disc) , DX6 , 6.1 , and DX7 , and sadly there was almost no difference, in fact with those it was worse as the movie seemed to be even choppier than with DX8 (along with the Grim …
