I think that is more of a question just how valuble stuff are. I often hotplug those jacks and nothing notable bad has happend during the ~22 years I have owned different sound cards. On the other hand if I had some unique sound card that was impossible to replace I would not hotplug anything.

I am going to sound crazy but the ESS Audodrive is not a bad choice (depending on version). All of the above cards are better than the Live! in DOS.

I only install USB storage drivers and DX7 or DX8 depending on video card and the speed of the system. But these systems are not online. It could be though that my disc has many updates included, I do not use an original disc (but I do own more than one).

DOS version of Raptor and the original version of Tyrian... but yea both games can be played in Windows.

Same is same. There must be a workaround for the driver issue... if it is an issue, perhaps the Videologic drivers are better 😀

Yes that's what v-sync does! Always have it disabled for benchmarking. But video capturing turn it on as tearing is awful to watch. In some Programs it seems as long as your card dosnt reach 60 FPS the FPS dosnt get locked but in others it does. In 3dmark 99 V-sync dosnt seem to lock to 30 FPS only …
