Run the game in Dosbox and setup MIDI capture. Ctrl-Alt-F8 to start and again to stop.

I've used the Mirsoft MIDI ripping guide before. You connect the 2 computers with MIDI couplers. Then configure the game to play GM on the playback computer and record MIDI with midi-ox in Windows or arecordmidi in Linux on the recording computer.

CMI8738 in my experience has poor SFX support. The FM sounds pretty good, especially through SPDIF though.

My SBLive 0100 doesn't play some MIDI files properly like Doom 1 E1M3. But my Audigy2 and SB32 do. Maybe an earlier SBLive model is better.

Jazz Jackrabbit FM and SFX worked for me with the computer in my signature (YMF 724 with PC/PCI and S-IRQ but I booted into MS-DOS with a floppy) with 3 different configs. I have a Yamaha 724 in my Win98SE PC. The YMF7x4Utilities is a Japanese program, but all you have to do is open the program and select FM+MPU401 on the 2nd tab. Then restart the computer.

You can run YMF7x4Utilities, which can allow the installation of the FM MIDI driver. But it may cause problems with FM games like Doom if you play from within Win98.

Make sure PXE boot and USB legacy are turned off. Then boot off a floppy with no config.sys or autoexec.bat and run umbchk from umbpci in order to find your free mem.

You're supposed to install the WDM drivers initially. Then, there is a utility in the start menu to switch the drivers to VXD.
