If not the Geforce 256/Quadro, I do remember the Savage 2000's only claim to fame was that for a brief period it was known to be the fastest card for Quake 3 Arena in 32 bit color; might be worth a look. Aside from that maybe a TNT2 Ultra, Power VR Kyro, or something along those lines.

I just hate how they all use those big connectors. It becomes more expensive when you have to buy new cables for all the inputs too. The Audigy will work fine. I had the Audigy MP3+ in my old Dell XPS-450 450MHz P3 machine and when I toasted it the card lived in an IBM 300PL tower with a P2-450 in it for the longest.

Definitely sounds like a bad midi cable. It could be the gp-to-midi cable too. I had one go out on me and it took a good while to figure it out.
