Ran some more tests. The card installed is a CT4500 . It is noisy while recording even if I remove the Simmconn (no surprises there). I was able to dig up a CT4520 in my parts stash and tried that instead . The result : recording is subjectively much quieter (no 1KHz bump), BUT playback is worse …
