Re: ESS Audiodrive ES1868F and MIDI

Well spotted. It's one of a pair of 303s. I run a pair of B&Ws with one amp per side and then bi-wired so there's an independent channel for the woofer and tweeter for each speaker. Interesting. Do you use an active crossover or a software-defined one or something else entirely ? I hope you don't …

Re: Possibly crazy idea : using a Raspberry with Jack and something like JackMix to have "create" a software S/PDIF mixe

I ordered a multi TT USB 2.0 hub and two of those USB SPDIF sound cards, for starters. For SPDIF output, I have a UCA202 already . I will begin putzing around with the PI when I get the chance. If all this amounts to nothing useful, I should still find a use for the hub and only be out a few dollars …

Re: ESS Audiodrive ES1868F and MIDI

Ok, ordered the Serdaco interface. Next question, what's the best solution for adding in a gameport (as this interface doesn't have passthru for a joystick). Dedicated gameport card? 2nd soundcard (had my eye on some OPL based cards) - any issues running 2 soundcards at once? I run three sound …

Re: ESS Audiodrive ES1868F and MIDI

Anyone have any experience/thoughts on this one? https://www.ebay.com/itm/124234303493 I have seen that ad and almost bought one at the time . Considering the seller's has a great rating and has been at it for a while, it's a good sign . But unless you need MIDI IN, the Serdaco one is more …

Re: ESS Audiodrive ES1868F and MIDI

Pretty sure you won't find anything but wire inside (which would explain the lack of function). I had the same issue when looking for a spare . Finally found a cheap new old stock one that worked . In your case, fixing your existing can likely be done by following the schematic in this thread . …

Re: ESS Audiodrive ES1868F and MIDI

I bought a crappy one with moulded plastic shells. It contained a PCB but completely wrong resistors. Adding proper resistors to yours should work, you don't need an opto coupler for output and a buffer isn't necessary either. I stand corrected . One should never underestimate the bottom feeders . …

Re: ESS Audiodrive ES1868F and MIDI

It's one of these (from that auction site...) It looks well made enough. I'll pop it open and check to see if it's sound or needs reworking. Pretty sure you won't find anything but wire inside (which would explain the lack of function). I had the same issue when looking for a spare . Finally found …

Re: ESS Audiodrive ES1868F and MIDI

Ok just did a clean DOS 6.22 install. Installed the ESS drivers Ran SoftMPU and it detects and runs on port 330 Still no midi hitting the SC-55 Post a picture of your MIDI cable. SoftMPU isn't needed for an SC-55. It's one of these (from that auction site...) It looks well made enough. I'll pop it …

Re: ESS Audiodrive ES1868F and MIDI

I've installed the DOS drivers now and verified the port is set correctly. Still no midi coming out. I've tried Softmpu too. It detects SB Pro compatible card and MPU on 330. It then says port trap failed submit a bug report... I'm putting this down for a bit. I think I'll pop a clean 6.22 on it …

Re: ESS Audiodrive ES1868F and MIDI

The ES1868F is plug and play and is typically auto-configured by BIOS or a initilization utility . In your case the BIOS is doing the initilization and may not be doing it properly/completely for the MPU-401 part. Using the ESSCFG.EXE util would put that doubt to rest . How have you determined it's …

Re: Roland MT-32

in MT-32 General
Which Would be in your opinion a good price? consider Shopping cost for Europe..I live in EU.. It makes sense to connect ti a modern pc? A good way to have an idea of the going rate is to look at completed auctions where the item actually sold (though there are probably some fake results in there …

Re: Resurrecting an old IBM Valuepoint 486 machine. How can I get it to contribute to World Community Grid?

I probed the VRM connector using a multimeter and I think I know how it's wired up. The connector has 20 pins total. The 10 pins towards the front of the computer are the input pins. The 10 pins aft are the output pins. The little jumper block that's installed just connects the input and output …

Re: Roland MT-32

in MT-32 General
I was going to suggest the Roland RA-50 as a mostly MT-32 (newer version) compatible, but their prices have shot up in the last 2 weeks . They are still cheaper than an MT-32, though . They need a relatively simply hardware mod for full MT-32 compatibility (or you can use Softmpu or a Hardmpu). …

Re: virus on vogondrivers

We had one such guy on a different tech forum once who took it to the extreme. He actually faked a problem, by deliberately changing settings in his video card drivers, then complained about it for several pages. Every advice he rejected with "tried it and it didn't help". When sent diagnostic …
