Hello. First of all, thanks for accept me in the forum I recently installed win98SE on a Compaq Deskpro with a pentium iii 733 i bought. I already installed the chipset, video and sound drivers and everything seems to work well on windows. I can hear music on winamp and the windows system sounds …

Re: Matrox G2 RAM Slot

It is for RAM expansion indeed . Apparently it came in SDRAM and SGRAM variants (depending on what the card already had). https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1012226 EDIT : Archive of official Matrox page : https://web.archive.org/web/20051016143535/http://www.matrox.com/mga/products/ …

Re: Freedos alongside Win98SE

The issue experienced by the OP is that his sound hardware is not initialized properly under DOS ( CWCDOS.EXE does not detect his CS4280 sound chip) . Changing DOS versions won't fix that . My guess on that front may be his PCI / ISA PNP / resource settings in bios, I've had similar issues with CMI …

Re: Freedos alongside Win98SE

I also concur about Mortal Kombat 2; Freedos or any other DOS will not help with that issue . No more than running Win98 command line only. I am not sure I understand what you mean by that. The game runs fine under Windows 98 SE DOS pure DOS mode . It does not run properly in a Windows dos box ( …

Re: Yamaha YMF743

As opposed to the YMF7x4 family (see YMF724 datasheet, for example : https://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/v … AHA/YMF724.html ), the YMF743 does not have a legacy audio block. It does not even seem to have an FM synthesizer !

Re: Yamaha YMF743

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has any tips on getting a Yamaha YMF743 sound chip working under DOS? My Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 uses this (AC-XG). Although it is a member of the WMF74X Family, it's not the same as the DS-XG that does have native DOS support. Any ideas on this one? Cheers …

Re: Sun Moon Star Adlib Clone

Other than the OPL2 clone, there are 4 unmarked chips on the board, or is that just the lighting ? That 74LS74 (possibly the DAC ), looks quite legit too and about to jump out of its socket as well . It's the lighting. Here's a close-up. (And you were right about the 74LS74). IMG_9350.jpg Thanks …

Re: Sun Moon Star Adlib Clone

In another thread I mentioned that I'd purchased an Adlib clone made by Sun Moon Star. There's an eBay seller who has a lot of them at a reasonable price. I finally had a chance to pop it into my 386SX build and can report that it works great. I am listening to the Adlib music from Wolfenstein 3D …
