Re: DOOM 1.1 GUS hardware mixing

darry , I agree it would have be far fetched but not impossible. During the timeframe of 1.0 to 1.9 I went from a 386sx16 to a 486dx50, they could had sneaked in software playback hidden behind a bug and a compatibility problem 😉. They where using a sound engine from a third party, and software …

Re: DOOM 1.1 GUS hardware mixing

Thanks for your input ViTi95. I continued my research and I think I can confirm that Doom and it's DMX engine never used software mixing for the music, what a relief. I did a dump of the GUS memory and all music patch are here, that and impact of using a GUS from playback allow me to be fairly …

Re: DOOM 1.1 GUS hardware mixing

I gave the idea some more though and I realize I could make that p1-233mmx downclocked at 120mhz struggle to run the game by disabling both level cpu cache. According to norton SYSINFO, it should compare to something like a 386DX-20~25mhz. At maximum screen size, high quality DOOM draw around 5fps. …

DOOM 1.1 GUS hardware mixing

My understanding is that in version 1.2 of DOOM 1 they fall back on software mixing on the GUS for the DMX music. Back then I had a slow 386sx16 with a GUS so, I was happy to benefit from the it's hardware mixing until I upgraded my doom version. Unfortunately I encountered a bigger problem with my …

Re: Halt a batch job with a keypress

I was afraid I had no choice to rely on a small utility to read the keyboard in an non intrusive way, but I did not figured the utility could talk back to the calling batch file using error level. That limit the overhead of this avenue to an acceptable level, thanks K1n9_Duk3, I will experiment the …

Halt a batch job with a keypress

Hi, I think my question need a bit of context first. I enjoy using some music players under dos since they bring all kind of niceties that is sometimes lost under windows. We cannot reproach those authors not to have included a playlist support as it is easier said than done. So those who made batch …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

If I understand what you are saying, you just want some kind of output saying which sound card(s) the VGM data is playing on. This makes sense; I can try to look into this at some point. That would be nice, I wonder if when the screen display the list of detected/added soundcard the player already …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

With the current VGM format, without actually analyzing the VGM data before playback, there's no way to know which sound chips are actually used. Currently the best way to know which sound chip may be used is simply by looking at the VGM soundchip clock information that is printed. SBVGM.TXT has a …

Re: Tandy Nano - 3 Voice Soundcard ISA - Lowprofile

I've bought 2 kits, one for myself and one to assemble for someone in the states that withdrawn it's interest. While I don't hate to have a spare, I would feel bad having one in a anti-static bag sleeping in a drawer if it make someone miss it. I would not mind sending you a built/operational one at …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Thanks for your precise answer, you clearly understood all of my questions. So I could quickly finish to setup the card. I browsed vgmrips to upgrade my vgm collection. This setup will have an SAAYM on 210h and an AWE32 on 220h (I think it's a CT2760 with the CQM chip). I found having multiple cards …

Epic Pinball intro music Silverball intro music Pinball Fantasies intro music What's great with web sites like mirsoft is that you can validate that you where right to think that epic pinballs soundtrack is very similar to the jazz jackrabbit one. You can also learn that the author of those digital …
