Would it be possible with the right software on the microcontroller of HardMPU to be a MPU-401 hardware "bridge" to non MPU-401 capable synths like the EMU8000 or GF1, like a hardware version of AWEUTIL?

If you are using the Biostar M7VIG Pro mentioned in your signature then it should have it's own gameport, just enable MIDI in your BIOS and you should be good to go. If you need a better sound card for DOS than your Live! then the ESS Solo-1 and ALS4000 based cards are good for the later VIA …

You'll need a software MIDI bridge like loopMIDI to get the MIDI data from PCem to FSMP.

When I read the specs of the IBM Aptiva Series E Model 2158 it seems like it contains an ESS Solo-1 PCI sound chip integrated on the motherboard already. This might be very suitable for both DOS and Windows gaming.

IBM M1015 or Fujitsu D2607 (uses the LSISAS2008 chip) if you need one you can flash to run in HBA mode.

As for DOS usage I don't really know if the integrated northbridge of the Transmeta Crusoe are capable to do DDMA. Can you give us the full output from PCI.EXE to see which PCI IDs it uses?

Have you had a look in the "Frequency/Voltage Control" section of your BIOS? The "Clock By Slight Adjust" setting should be adjusted to 133MHz for the Pentium III.

Have you configured the SW1 jumpers to auto bus speed? It's located in the outer corner of the board by the DIMM slots. According to the manual pin 1 and 2 should be connected, same with pin 4 and 5. Suggest you try to reinstall the CPU if the jumpers are OK.
