I have had an Mac G4 with Rage128Pro once. It ran good and (I guess) ok enough on MacOS-9. Though running OsX Tiger was a pain, even with 1gb of Ram. On the other hand. If the Rage128Pro cards are fast enough, compared to TNT2-Ultra/Pro's, then why not? Especially if they are cheaper than TNT2 …

For a cheap starter-soundcard, I can recommend a couple of card's. You can go for a cheap Vibra16 card, as long as it has an OPL chip. Because you will only loose the bass and treble settings in the mixer-tool. This is really roughly speaking as some cards may still be noisy and other things to look …

When I use a PCI or ISA vga card that are Vesa compliant, I can access that technology when running the tool called univbe.exe When I have a Vesa Local Bus gfx card, then what use is the tool? Or are the name of the VL-Bus misleading to me?

There are multiple choices for PCI soundcards. I recommend eighter Vortex2 or YMF-724. Mostly because they are stereo cards. Vortex seems to be the best for pure Win98 from what I read. Any special reason to why you need the correct disk's? I have an Compaq too (Deskpro EN or EL or something) and I have not searched for an original disk. I did get all the drivers for my machine elsewere, so I really did not have a need for such disk's.
