Well, in my experience a decent 300W PSU from back in the day had at least 30A on both the 3.3V and 5V lines. This is something you'll see very seldom in modern power supplies. Fortunately, Socket 7, Slot 1 and Socket 370 platforms use very little power, so you'll be fine with about 120W on those …

I don't think you get something like that. I've seen SATA <-> IDE adaptors for Laptop Optical drives that have connectors on them that suspiciously look like analogue connectors, but I couldn't verify that they are.

I know with newer sound cards and optical drives you can enable Digital CD Audio Output in Windows 9x via the control panel. Might be worth a try?

The Problem isn't really the R480 and R580 chipsets. If I recall correctly ATI only worked on the chipset that controls the Crossfire and a few other things I can't remember (I'm not sure if the R480/R580 had the memory controller or the CPU itself).
