Re: Bad Mojo and The Neverhood

Will the DirectDraw Compat tool help with Bad Mojo Redux? Because so far, the install bombs, and demands I remove QT7 and install QT6. Is that exactly what it says? If you have QT7 installed, is there some reason you can't uninstall it? Yes, that's EXACTLY what it says. It won't even complete the …

Re: Bad Mojo and The Neverhood

Also tried kill explorer, but the color schemes were still fubar. Could you help me point out how I'm goofing it up, please? Why doesn't anybody see my post above? I'll ease it up and attach the file right here... I used the DD Compat tool, too. It didn;t help. ScummVM was the only thing that …

Re: Bad Mojo and The Neverhood

After I put the Neverhood disc in, and try to run install, I get a dialog box saying that "The version is this file is incompatible with the version of Windows you are using. Contact the System admin to see if you need X86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version, then contact the game manufacturer" That …

Re: Bad Mojo and The Neverhood

OK, I'm confued about "kill explorer". To me, that means killing windows explorer, and that causes the Win7 machine to literally shit the bed. Is there a different explorer y'all are talking about? Becaus otherwise, I'm just going to see if I can get win 95/98SE running in Virtualbox and run it in …

Re: A way to repurpose older PCs for educational uses

Recap those old machines and let it class create a linux cluster server or just teach some fine linux samba/lamp setup. They issues with that is that the teachers would have to go attend courses to learn how it all works. Back when I was an instructor, I had to teach K-12 teachers how to administer …

Re: Best 3D Games Without Hardware Acceleration?

Well, it's 3rd person, but my vote is for Outcast. The terrains were all voxels, the main character and NPCs were 3D models, and it featured post processing, DOF, among other effects that were unheard of at the time, and it was all software rendered. Required a really beefy CPU to get it to run …

collector wrote: [...SNIP...This is how I fixed the quicktime issues with QfG5. Is that an issue with the GOG version of QFG5, too, or just the originials? I've got the GOG version installed, but haven't tested it yet. I lost my QFG5 disks during a move, and went ahead and re-purchased them during …

Re: Bad Mojo and The Neverhood

Well, the win7 installer from sourceforge got the game installed. I had to manually copy smakw32.dll from the disc. I set wa.exe to win95 compat and 256 color, but when the game runs, the colors are all FUBAR. Any idea what I did wrong? EDIT Whoops! Didn't see your post before I added mine. I'll try …

Re: A way to repurpose older PCs for educational uses

I ended up using Ubermix, since the userspace is completely separate from the OS partition. One of the kids hoses up his userspace, an quick repair using his own thumbdrive resolves it. The only issue I ran across was having to install the bash vulnerability patch. The kids love all the preinstalled …

Re: Bad Mojo and The Neverhood

The Neverhood is pretty easy to run on Win7. What issues have you had? What have you tried? I have Bad Mojo Redux, but I have not tried it on Win7. I could take a look if I get time. No one is going to accuse you of pirating if there is nothing suspicious about your post that suggests you might …

Bad Mojo and The Neverhood

Has anyone had any luck getting Bad Mojo Redux or Neverhood running on Win7 64bit? Neverhood won't install, even with compatability mode set, as it screams that it won't work with my version of windows. Bad Mojo insists on installing an older version of Quicktime before it attempts to run. And …

Re: Funny Craigslist ad

I help people at work with their home computers. I make sure that they have Microsoft Security Essentials and the firewall running but no other real time protection. When I now and then service these systems I often have to deinstall MCAfee, AVG and Norton all running along side MSE and slowing the …

Re: Can playing Harvester damage the CDs?

in DOS
Depending on your drive, there's always a risk of scratching the disks. I had a high-speed plextor drive that tore up discs like nobody's business. Imaging the discs, and running them in some type of virtual drive is the way to go. Besides, CD-ROMs are notorious for "cd-rot" as they get older. …

Re: Munt mt-32 emulation gets stuck.

MSFT must've made some major changes under the hood for Win8, because Munt works just peachy in Windows7 64bit. Have you updated to Windows 8.1? Maybe they restored whatever functionality was broken in 8. I wouldn't bet the farm on it, but it's worth a shot... Worst case, snag a copy of VMWare or …
