Browsing the directx wiki, 8.0a in 2001 was the last version to include the software renderer, so I figured virtualbox + fast current cpu + software renderer = directx games up to 2001/dx1-8 at possibly decent speed(what I wanted to check out) because of present day cpu. I installed 98se on the …
