As the original case for my Turbo AT had a two digit unit which decided to let out the magic smoke, I would love to have one of these to replace it with. Would be nice to have a case that fits properly as opposed to the IBM 5170 case I've been using which doesn't seem to fit everything very well.

Why? 640K ought to be enough for anyone. Being a 286 it's not like he's likely to be doing a whole lot that needs more, and DOS itself can't use much beyond that either. The only restrictions I can think of off the top of my head would basically be things that you'd really want a 386 for anyways.

I would go so far as to say any Core2 series CPU should be considered "Modern," as it's about the oldest platform which can still smoothly run Windows 10 with full support and will still also be adequate for most tasks like web browsing, email, document editing, movies, etc. I would say anything …

Not to mention TV's from the 50's used very few can electrolytic capacitors since they were extremely expensive to produce. (over $80 each in today's dollars) They mostly used paper/wax electrolytic capacitors which would definitely dry and crack in a desert environment. They didn't even last long …

I would imagine they were throwing whatever parts they had in the bins on the boards and shipping them. A comment on the "12V needs to be here"... Routing such complex boards can be a massive pain and as the OEM if the engineers thought it would be easier/cheaper to route the lines a particular way …

They look fine to me. If they were bulging they would be out of the vent perforations at the top. The pressure required to bulge the main body would be more than is required to pop the cap on it's own.

Hmm. The heads are in contact with the media, right? Heads should be spring loaded and gently hold the media between them. Do you have any other machines with a diskette drive at all? Or any other diskettes to test with.

Dang. Would love to have one someday, it's a beautiful design. If anyone finds one they'd be willing to sell.. A visual database shouldn't be terribly hard but it might be storage intensive, I think.

Overclock would not be in the BIOS for most of these old machines, it would be in the form of jumpers on the motherboard. You've already reseated and cleaned the RAM, have you run Memtest? Try another video card or other RAM if possible.
