Did you use a 2D VGA card in conjunction with the Diamond Monster 3D? The Voodoo Graphics (and Voodoo II) are 3D add-on cards.

If I’m not mistaken all early FX 5200 are based on the NV34 chip. When the FX 5500 came out nVidia shipped the NV34B1 chip. From that point in time all FX 5200 and FX 5500 used the newer B1 revision. In my Quake 2 software-rendering benchmark the Pentium MMX 233 scores between a PR300/75FSB and a PR333/83FSB. I guess the PR300 will generally be satisfactory. ALU intensive apps/games will run faster on the Cyrix and FPU intensive apps/games run better on the Pentium MMX. I haven’t specifically …

If you take the SBLive! you’re better off with the VxD drivers. The WDM are slower and can cause stutter (at least it doesn’t work well with my Pentium III 3dfx Win98 build 😉).

You can try replacing the capacitors. I’ve had quite a few FX5200 and FX5500 cards that needed new caps.

Have you cleaned the PCI connector of the cards that didn’t work? I’ve had many ISA, VLB and PCI cards from that era that just needed a wipe with some cleaning alcohol before they would work 😀.

On my Tualatin 1400 benchmark system with i815 chipset I had to disable AGP4x support in the BIOS to make the card shell out some pixels 😀. I used the Rage 128 / Rage 128 Pro 4.13.7192 (Win98) drivers. Can’t recall having major issues although I haven’t used the card for an extensive period.
