Have you tried running the executables in Windows (XP/7/8) directly? Maybe they're self-extracting archives that contain the individual files. That would be my guess.

I haven't checked how my "386" performs yet :p - if it's seriously below a DX2-66, I might consider an upgrade. Problem is, I have several faster chips, but all of them 3.3V... Don't want a Pentium Overdrive. I have other machines for that. It even has markings that the computer mustn't be operated …

While not particularly reccomended, on a few video cards I had without that pin, I used the end of a heated paper clip to make a hole for the pin and never had trouble That's a good tip, thank you. The manual is for a different/newer version, different layout and all that. Already tried the VGA in another slot, nothing. No beeps. I think the board is brand new, no signs of usage, no dust at all. That'd explain the lacking cache chips (even so, 486s without cache are far from unheard of). …

You can't use a 50MHz clock. That's for a DX 50 MHZ. For a 33/66 MHz cpu you need a 33MHz quartz. I don't think you can disable all cache by jumpers in that board, but i could be wrong. I have a similar one and the lowest cache setting is 32KB. I think the board clock is oscillator/2, so it shoud …

Pictures! I can't really follow. It seems to me that you're trying to fit an ATX board into an AT case, I always thought this isn't possible, but maybe there are some cases that allow it... You could build a socket 7 AT system instead of a 486...
