Yeah on Yamaha cards always disable the on-board amplifier (most have a jumper for that) and use good external amplified speakers. This keeps the noise nicely down.

Yeah I'm not impressed with the dual G5-1.8 either. Takes about 6h to compile a recent Linux kernel. And that's with multithreaded compiling.

DOS makes extensive use of BIOS interrupts, so it does make a difference if you use that or one of the Win9x variants.

why is this better than the original proposed solution of adding resistance to the feedback of the original regulator? Apparently you hit a limit that way that doesn't allow you to raise the voltage above 3.7V or so. And in this particular CPU, 3.7V is not enough to make a difference. Going off of …

Good luck with Linux. I just spent a week trying to get Gentoo installed on a G5 (2004 dual 1.8 ), I got it all set eventually only to stumble upon bootloader (you have to use yaboot) not being actually able to boot anything. Now when I want to get to OSX I have to go through OpenFirmware. 😁

Did voltage mod on the ODPS5V83 with 2 Schottky diodes in series, CPU voltage is now 4V and it is completely stable at 100MHz (40x2.5) in all games and benchmarks I tried.
