That second Chips 80286 has some screwed-up memory chips. That board has taken some serious physical abuse. And, the "Also IBM XT?" is in fact a IBM PC motherboard.

They're usually for proprietary memory expansion boards. Also the battery is built into the Dallas chip in the right lower corner of the board.

I don't remember what chipset is used on the Creative cards with SCSI, but it's likely to be much slower than the 1542. Those were adequate for slow CDROM transfers (2x-4x at the time at most) not for fast HDD transfers. Also very likely you wouldn't be able to boot from a HDD attached to the sound …

Apart from a handful of loonies like us nobody would be buying such a thing. That's a market way too small for any company to seriously consider. Your best bet for doing what you want would be to recreate the chipset in a FPGA. That requires time and knowledge but can be done possibly by an amateur. …

If you're looking for good DOS sound compatibility in a Thinkpad, look at models such as the 380XD or the 770D; they use the CS4237 chipset which is quite good in DOS.
