c't was / is awesome! But for me it was mostly PowerPlay and later PC Player (PC Player Benchmark). There was also Gamestar. At the time these magazines were my only source of information. DX-50? Nice! I heard it's a challenge because of the high bus speed. Yea Roland stuff is expensive, but it's a one-off purchase and good investment IMO. Will check out that supplier. The chips are all the same, so if I can get a bulk oder I can fill all those empty sockets 😀

Yes the IO controller has headers for a second serial port as well as for a game-port. But there are empty IC sockets on the card and I am wonder what they are for.

^^ Yup, on early Pentium machines I found Windows 95 faster / snappier, but in the end I just ended up using Windows 98 SE, even though it was a little bit more sluggish. You can tune Windows 98 SE a bit with 98lite.

I got two cards with this issue. One has a socketed chip, the other one is soldered. I have one card that doesn't have the issue. Might have to dump the BIOS of these cards at some point.

The Live! cards can be a pain to find the correct drivers for. One of the reasons I always use a Vortex 2 card 😀

I take it there are no ISA slots? Now that you got XP running, you can run some hardware tools that list all the components. The chipset driver is something you defintely need for Windows 98 SE.
