I used an Asrock 865 chipset board for my Pentium 4 Windows 98 SE video. It worked great, and yes, the SATA ports worked with the HDD. For the ODD I'd stick to an IDE drive because of the CD Audio support. As for what board, I don't think it matters much. Do check the capacitors though, that can be …

Not sure about best, but my favourite is the Audician 32 / Yamaha ISA card. ESS Audio drive is also a very good wavetable host. Sound Blaster not too much, there are issues with hanging notes and noise. If it has to be a Sound Blaster I'd go with an AWE64 Gold and an external wavetable board …

I'm leaning more towards candle_86 view on this. I think Intel drew the line with 865/875 for 478 AGP and 915/925 for 775 with PCIe. But it's cool that there are these boards that bridge standards, it wouldn't be as interesting without them.

Very nice. My go-to Slot 1 board is also an AOpen 😀 When I had a V2, I had a Pentium II 300 MHz, so this PC is a good fit.

Yup. Your thread brings back good memories. I looked up some old posts of mine from 2010 when I did my own cache experiments and benchmarks. I actually started off with a Slot 1 system, but quickly found that socket 7 is the way to go.
