VIA chipset, nice! I do have one 775 board with 865 chipset and AGP slot. Did Intel themselves have such boards? I'm just wondering how "official" 775 boards with 865 chipsets are. With AMD, PCIe came a bit later and 939 AGP boards are quite common.

For AGP its not worth it to put a bridged AGP card in an older system these days. Unless your building a retro machine then get a 6800 or X850. That's funny, we used the same exact card to get the bracket from 😁 Regarding capturing, you might have to seriously upgrade your machine. Capturing at 1600 x 1200 60 fps my Haswell Pentium Anniversary CPU just handles it at around 70% CPU load. I think a FX6300 would work well.

A real shame it doesn't work on the MMX. That CPU is just a little bit too fast without caches and could benefit from some further slowing down 🙁

From my experience, the AGP 6600GT is a particularly difficult card to get going. I have 4 and only the non reference Palit works. However the X1950 Pro works fine. Much easier is getting a 6800 GT, that cards is native AGP and works great in all the motherboards I tried (Socket A, 478 and 754, 939 …

It would be the X850XT PE. The X1950 Pro uses a bridge chip. It can be found on the back of the card with a little pad around it.

Out of the cards that I have, my fastest is a stock standard GeForce 4 MX card 😀 So the 6200 will be faster for sure. Matrox does some half height cards, but they are older G500 series types.

Just install windows from the HDD. Boot from the CD, partition and format your drive. Then copy the disc content into a subfolder on the HDD. I use W98. Once copied, run SETUP from the HDD :) This has another benefit of not having to find the disc when you install a joystick or other plug and play …
