Great find! Too old for me, but I'm eager to hear the stories and what this machine can do. The condition is just amazing, I would love to know the background story, were do they come form? How did they stay untouched for this long?

Hmmm Disabling caches through BIOS / command line vs. building 3 PCs 🤣 If you go with a MMX 233 you can have: 386DX, 486DX2 and MMX 233 in a single machine 😀

I like the idea of buying an OEM box, then adding parts and modifying it to your needs. Maybe some photos of the build as you go along?

I also have a NF7-S, the previously owner put a passive Zalman chipset cooler on it. I added a fan and the board works great.

What I do is just place a 50mm fan on top of the stock cooler. Because I just use test benches, I don't screw the fan on, so it's more a temporary thing. But the airflow helps a lot.

The only celeron I ever had was in a notebook 😀 As far as budget processors for desktops, I did have a Sempron (socket 754), now THAT was a value chip. I think it was 1.6 GHz stock and overclocked to 2.4 or 1.8 to 2.2 or something like that. Either way it was excellent value 😀

Can you post the config file? I'd try opengl or openglnb as output, and maybe a scaler setting (2x or 3x).

Good point about the hardware and compatibility. My current PC isn't fully able to run the latest and greatest. So playing older games maxed out is a bonus. I'm holding out for polaris and Pascal this year. I think the unified memory of the consoles is a bit of a challenge with older PCs.

Just wondering what frames a Voodoo 5 6000 can produce in Unreal and at 1600 x 1200 in Glide? The V5 does around 50 or so on a fast Pentium III.

I can get confusing with L1, L2 and L3 cache... In the BIOS, L1 is best to be looked at CPU cache. What's great about AM3+ is the wide range of processors. With intel there are too many sockets. 775, 1156, 1155, 1150... The CPUs are cheap, but then you got to hunt down boards. Whereas with AMD you just need one decent AM3 board and you can use a huge range of processors. All of them are plenty …

I paid quite a bit more for the EE chips, but they will hold the value well and just get more desirable over time 😀 These extreme chips will always be sought after.
