Just go with a non + chip. Sure, they are not as fast, but still plenty of performance and much faster compared to Pentium / MMX. I don't think any of my SS7 boards have a USB header.

Fascinating stuff these incompatibilities. I've never seen the issue with the black lines. What game and cards would trigger this?

I think we all learnt some "video card buying lesson" at some stage. Mine was to properly read up on any M/LE/SE/XT/XL or whatever other name they come with cards 😀

Incoming renders incorrectly with later Nvidia cards. E.g. works on TNT cards, but not GF2 I believe. dgVoodoo2 had to add a feature for this when I noticed it did the same thing :) ATI doesn't have this issue. All I can say is that I was positively surprised how good ATI was on the P4. Now on a …

Yes the polarity is reversed compared to most. Sega Genesis / Mega Drive adapter works great 😀 But there are replacement adapters on eBay too.

1V more should cause any issues, but it's not recommended. The mA figure should be higher than what is written on the MIDI device. The ones I use are 9V and 1660 mA.

What's interesting is that with the Ensoniq drivers, the Audio PCI also works with intelligent mode games such as those from Sierra or Wing Commander. However, I was unable to get the AudioPCI to use the external MPU-401 port, it just uses it's internal synth.

I'll have to disagree, GS/GM is not always cosmetic... look at tilakat's GM driver fixes for example, there are plenty of drivers that needed fixing so that you get the same result as GS when using a GM synth.
