You will have lots of fun with that 386 😀 A real 386 is always something special to me. My very first PC was a DX-33. I even hunted down an old magazine which had the advertisement for it 🤣 Also, curious about your screenshot process. I can see Paint and some OS or skin I don't recognise.

You got the texture bug? Wow what driver are you using? I got Far Cry working flawlessly on a GTX660. But I did tell you, stick with 32 bit Windows XP for compatibility 🤣

Very nice! P4 3.2 GHz was the fastest machine I had V2 SLI running 🤣 Was a fun project, no doubt.Quake 2 performs very solid, very nice.

Sierra, especially the later VGA graphics, have good GM. But you also want a MT-32 for slightly older ones. Later games from Legend Entertainment and pretty much everyone else. It's all about the release year. So yea, if you have a MT-32 as well you can play a whole lot more games. E.g. SQ3 is MT-32 …

The motherboard cache can only be controlled through the BIOS I'm afraid. Not familiar with the Asus P5A-B, I usually just load BIOS defaults, but you tried so much already, either there is an incompatibility or something else going on. Really enjoyed the first part of so, but later it gets a bit boring and some frustrating puzzles. The resolution is an issue as you can't really tell sometimes what the game is trying to tell you 😀 I won't say more because I don't want to spoil anything...

Just get these cheap eBay coolers. They are basically inaudible. I use a FX5200 in my main DOS time machine, A Pentium 100, because it's one of the few cards that clones the image on VGA and DVI. I use this for capturing 😀

I picked up an Intel 233 MMX for super cheap and will try it out this weekend. I know I can disable the caches with it, but I imagine SetMul will not work, correct? Is there any way to impact the multiplier otherwise? You can use SetMul to enable / disable the cache. That should get most speed …

My memory is a bit fuzzy, but did you check both settings. The Windows settings, as well as the Vortex2 settings. Both have their options. Maybe take a screenshot? What driver did you install?

The Vortex has it's own tool as well. Either through control panel or the icon in the tray. Here you can configure the DOS output, either wavetable or MPU401 (which is through the joystick port, e.g. a Roland Sound Canvas or Yamaha MU externally connected). Should be the cheapest one, around $20 with 3 digits. I've got some USB to serial adapters now, might try it out. I like the mod for the Amiga 500, that gives you a floppy with ADF file selection, very nifty. Something that would be cool is 2.88 MB floppy support.
