Is that right? My good friend / neighbour, he's also into old Computers, whenever he's in Perth he always hauls back a car load of old stuff 😀 I rely mostly on eBay, but work has also been a good source.

Speedsys is one benchmark I never use :) The gaming benchmarks show that your machine is performing as expected. Doom should fly. Quake is much better played on a Pentium or faster. Hexen I'm not sure, maybe somewhere in-between? I would stick with DOS on this machine. Leave a Pentium or Pentium II …

I've got quite a few 8800 type cards. 8800 GT, 9600GT, 9800 GTS, GTX+. They all work fine. I do remember an issue with notebook chips, but I believe it was 7 series that was affected. But 100% sure.

Could you download this benchmark suite from here: http://www.philscomputerlab.com/phils-ultimat … se-project.html Unpack the file somewhere onto your machine and then run bench,bat. Follow the prompts for 3dbench, pcpbench, doom and quake. This will give you a better idea.

Vetz has done some terrific work in this regard: Voodoo 2 DOS Glide compatibility matrix DOS speed and compatibility is excellent. Signal quality output of the V3 is also very good, on Matrox level I would say.

Live! is a great card. A lot more common than the Aureal cards. It should get the job done and it has DOS compatibility. I have no personal experience with Live! cards though.

+1 for an Aureal Vortex 2 PCI card. Works very well under DOS, and even has a wavetable header.

The Radeon 9800 and HD4850 were my only ATI cards I believe. At the time, both offered tremendous value. But the other times I was happy staying with NV.
