This happens if you are using the MS-DOS drivers! There are separate drivers for Windows 95 MS-DOS mode. While they don't come with an installer, they will work 100%. I've added it to my list of videos I would like to re-do because this question / problem pops up all the time 😀

Really digging this board so far! At 66 x 5 it is spot on the level of a 386DX 40 MHz. I haven't done anything in Windows, but in DOS it's very good. The onboard GPU has really washed out blacks and the onboard sound glitches up in some games. Using a PCI S3 and an ISA Sound Blaster 16 works great …

Yup. For DOS you definitely want an ISA sound card. For early Windows games ISA sound card are also fine, for all other Windows games I recommend going with a PCI card. If you want both then it will be a compromise one way or another. E.g. great for DOS with an ISA card but not the latest EAX or A3D …

With these old games there are so many variables. So by using mostly period correct software and hardware you can minimise them. I still want to test it with a slightly newer Core 2 Duo system and a GeForce 7 series card but currently don't have such a system.

Can you tweak the MMX to work fine with the old speed sensitive 486? I have a ali5 mobo with agp, PCI, Isa, and 266 MMX. Should I just use that as my 486? Well let's get specific. What hotfix / patch is in that service pack that addresses anything gaming related? I haven't run into a single bug / issue and I use W98 SE a lot 😀 I don't update XP either, just stay at SP2 and everything works.
