Repeating the same procedure without learning from it is just plain dumb. As I mentioned above labels are easy to get and is part and parcel of using floppy disks. Saves wasting time.

There's an embedded version of PC Dos 7.1 that supported Fat32 but I suspect it is for 386class up setups. I've got a copy of Real/32 with Fat32 support and that's for 386 up as well.

1.2meg drives really aren't that good at formating/writing 360k or smaller disks. Ok for reading though. You might have some one local who is into older systems that can provide some serviceable 1.2meg disks. Where abouts are you?

Just pop down to any stationary store a get suitable Avery or equivalent lables. They work just fine. Just using a marker and putting "boot" on the disk slider would help if labels aren't available.

Cheers for the input. Thanks for the heads up on a possible 1gig limit. Haven't been able to verify if this is applicable to the AHA-1522 yet. My card bios is dated 1990. No image. Did the seller tell you what capacity this drive is? Could well be a 360k drive if you are trying 1.2meg disks in it. What is the specs of the system you are testing it on?

I have used D-Link DE220s on Linux, OS/2, Dos, win/wfw3.x, NT and win9x Unsure it there's anything special about them but they work fine. Having a bnc connector made it easy to network on the cheap without using any hubs or switches.

Of course if you are stupid enough to use floppy disks not set up to boot off you'll get errors on start up if the disk is in the fdd. I find Maxtor and Conner hdds more problematic compared to BigFoots. I've got a bin full of floppies in various formats dating back to the early 80s through mid 90s …

Having an ISA Trident as a back up/fault finding card is a good idea I've found. At least you have a complete working system that way while repairs are being done.
