On my 2.1 50 pin Hawk drive all jumpers are removed. No external termination on the hdd at all and works perfectly on my isa adaptic controller. I was having a similar until I pulled all the jumpers. Sounds counter intuitive but it worked.

Well I insalled Debian Jessie,released in 2015, on the P166MMX rig and it seems performence is on par with Xandros 3 from 2005 on the same hardware wrt using Window Maker or XFCE4. Try the generic svga driver from http://www.win31.de/edrivers.htm Do you not have the specific drivers for your video chip set? Should hav been on your restore package.
