Re: I wish I had discovered Windows ME sooner!

There are things I like about windows Millennium I'd like to share. More memory capacity - I have run it on a 2GB RAM system; I have patched it to support up to 4gb. Updated file system features - FDISK FORMAT can see larger disks, windows defrag fastest out of all windows 9x editions. UPNP - …

Re: I wish I had discovered Windows ME sooner!

I think we can all agree that - instead of ME - Microsoft should release something like "Windows 98 Third Edition": 98SE with all the bug-fixes, and built-in drivers for newer hardware. They did - the 2004 update pack. Well apart from drivers perhaps. I didn't know such disc existed at all. But was …

Re: I wish I had discovered Windows ME sooner!

I also always liked the Windows Millennium o.s. and the usb compatibility is awesome and works even with a SATA to USB adapter for external drives. I never found too many problems of stability compared to 98 FE, but the only downside is that was somehow slower and heavier than 98, clearly from …

Re: 3Dmark03/05 can't start on Win ME

Hoho, I ran '05 on a W81 Atom N270 1 GB machine with integrated i945GSE and got 243 3DMarks The same system got 575 in '03 and 108 in '06 I had to use an external monitor IIRC because the programs would complain about the size of the gimpy inbuilt screen. Eheh the good old Atom related "problems". …

Re: 3Dmark03/05 can't start on Win ME

I've never run 3DMark 05 on Windows 9x but did once run 3DMark 03 on Windows 98 SE with no problems that I recall. I read somewhere that the early version of 3dmark03 seems to run but no words on 3dmark05. Unfortunately considering there're many Dx9 cards it would "run" even if maybe slowly. …

Re: HD3450 AGP and Windows ME: any drivers?

Nope. The newest ATI card that have drivers for Win9x / ME is the X850XT PE with beta drivers. The newest verified working Nvidia card with modified drivers for Win9x / ME is the 7900GTX. G80 8800 series are maybe supposed to work but I have not been able to get the 768MB cards working and have not …

HD3450 AGP and Windows ME: any drivers?

Hi, I imagine already the answer is no, but did some eventually also modded drivers exists to try this card with such old operating system like Win ME? I still need to buy a retail Win XP and I can't use it on the only mobo where I have a newer o.s. Thanks.

Re: 3Dmark03/05 can't start on Win ME

Update: I found in old discussions that the 3dmark03 to run should maybe need an older version of the 3dmark itself not the latest one. But I can't say if 3dmark05 could be solved equally. The error is a 3dmark internal dll and the suggestion to upgrade Windows to run them.

3Dmark03/05 can't start on Win ME

Hi, if I try to start 3dmark03 and 05 on Windows ME it gives me an error of a file and suggestion to upgrade to a newer Windows os. Is there a fix to launch it anyway? I've installet Directx 9.0c and having a Radeon 9500 to try on a P4. Thanks.

Re: Oldest video card with DVI?

Almost every Matrox G400 card can have DVI added to it. I have the daughter board for my Marvel G400-TV. I think some G400s came with DVI stock as well. The cards support Windows 3.1x, 9x, and NT 4.0,2000,XP. Here is the add-on complete with brackets if you find a G400 card: https://www.ebay.com/ …

Re: PowerDVD vs WinDVD for Win9x/ME

In WinDVD Trial 4 Platinum there's the check info for all three version of 3DNow!, SSE1, 2 and even HyperThreading I wasn't expecting. The good thing of WinDVD is that it actually says in the info if you're using IDCT acceleration or other. In PowerDVD XP I did see the "ATI hardware decoding: in use …

Old "Feature connector" video cards problems/questions

Hi, I was asking myself why of all the possible video cards I tried along with the Cinemaster C 3.0 C-Cube based dvd decoder using a feature connector for display into its own media player app, ONLY the 3dfx (I tried the Voodoo3 AGP and PCI version) seems to barely work.. and not even perfectly well …

Re: Oldest video card with DVI?

did you try with a DVI-D cable? I remember having had an issue with a card where it would output VGA unless a DVI-D cable or DVI-I to DVI-D adapter was used. also what monitor are you using? I suppose my cable is a DVI-D Dual Link cause it has all the holes and the single horizontal pin. The …

Re: Oldest video card with DVI?

I have an IBM OEM Number Nine-made S3 Savage 4 Xtreme with DVI from late 1999 - here's a stock pic of the card: The production card has a heatsink of course. I believe IBM shipped them in systems sold with CRT monitor with DVI-A connector. You'll not believe this but I found that card today (:D) …

Re: Found some old video cards: opinions?

Quick testing feelings using a P3-500 Katmai, 512mb PC100 CL2, i440BX, Windows ME; I can say I am impressed by some things. The Radeon 7000 based on the RV100 I was expecting it to be much faster than it seems to be clocked at 148Mhz and double that for ram but 64bit, got 1629 at 3DMark2000 and 780 …

appiah4 wrote on 2020-05-11, 11:44: It would help to know if these are AGP or PCI.. They all are AGP. The 6200 I suppose is the only one supporting 8x. The others all 1x/2x beside the Radeon 7000 and Rage Mobility-P seems a 1x/2x/4x same connector of the 6200.
