Re: System Shock SVGA problems

in DOS
Originally posted by acroig I cannot seem to get SVGA modes in either of my system (An XP with a Radeon 9700 Pro and a P4 with a GF4 4600) IIRC, the Radeon cards have the reverse of the problem that GeForce cards have... proper VESA support in XP, but it won't work properly if you use NOLFB with …

Re: Strife

Originally posted by Unregistered Strife freezes about 30% into it's loading bar. You're in a bad place here. Worse if you're not running XP (there's a reason we ask for things like the OS in posting guidelines). Strife is based on the DOOM engine, which means it has the same problem that all DOOM …

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: vlad: MIA?

Originally posted by HunterZ No, I was talking about trying to emulate properly the way games like Wiz6&7 and Dungeon Master throttle the SoundBlaster (or even the Adlib in the case of Wiz7) to play digitized sounds one sample at a time instead of using its DMA buffer like they're supposed to. I …

Re: Gabriel Knight 1 game problem

Sounds like a "speed-sensitive" issue. My CD version won't run on DosBox due to VCPI, meaning it's using "Protected mode". Not sure if speedset or "slow-down" utilities will help... Have you tried running the Windows version?

Re: Starflight II

Not sure what to tell you, I can't even get it to start up properly. Always crashes with some kind of memory corruption error. This is running on a Celeron 1.7 GHz. DosBox will let it start up, but then dies with an "unsupported" error. Meaning it may be a long while before it runs on DosBox. I do …

Re: Re: Is it possible to modify a running process?

Originally posted by MajorGrubert However, Windows NT and Windows 2000 had a security flaw where anyone could do this. Odd. I thought this security issue was only on XP, due to Microsoft not wanting a support nightmare due to all the older programs that presume they will have admin-level access. …

Re: I need some help

Originally posted by Glidos But you'll need a suitable Glide2x.ovl for your card and I don't know where you'd find that. I swapped it for my original, no change of OVL file and it worked fine except for a few columns in the immediate area (they had corrupted textures). No change in the Menu/ …

Re: Re: Re: vlad: MIA?

Originally posted by HunterZ I tried a couple of times to pitch the idea to him of doing some kind of hack for old games like Wizardry 6 & 7 and Dungeon Master that fire sound samples at the hardware a byte at a time... It sounded like he was considering adding it, but now...? I think you're …

Re: Ascendancy (no sound)

in DOS
I would start with the most basic SoundBlaster option available. Try plain SoundBlaster (SoundBlaster or Compatible, if the option is there) in the game's setup. Also, try using XP's native emulation as well (uses IRQ 5). If either of those work, go up to next step in SoundBlaster model and try …
